Removing Wax from Carpet

by S Tennant
(New Zealand)

Removing wax from carpet can work using either of two extremes-cold or heat. The 'cold' method involves using an ice cube to freeze the wax, which can then be peeled off in a solid lump. However, for removing residue, the 'hot' method can be even more effective. Use both techniques in combination if you like.

All you will need is a regular electric iron and a brown paper bag. Simply place the paper bag over the offending wax and use a low-to-medium heat iron to melt the wax. The paper bag will prevent the carpet from scorching, and also soak up the wax as it melts. You may have to shift the bag around a few times in order to absorb all the wax, but it will all eventually leave the carpet and transfer itself to the paper.

If you're lucky, the color will lift right out of the carpet along with the wax. Occasionally a slight stain may remain-say, if a red candle spilled on a white carpet. As long as the wax is gone, this stain may be treated in the same manner as any other carpet stain or most simply, with a commercial carpet-cleaning product.
