My Heart Pine Floor

by Jane
(USA)

Seeing the mixture of hear pine and oak throughout the house, very old house, we did our research to look at our options and what would be the most appropriate manner to handle restoring the newer addition that someone had added on to the side of the house probably about 20 years to a more congruent style that flowed with the rest of the house...

It needed hard wood flooring, even if it was a rather small little office room, just say no to carpet was our motto!

Most folks today especially feel a sense of accountability when you take on remodeling older homes. Now, while hardwood flooring is an investment for sure and we didn't want to over spend on the little room, which later became my most precious room in our home, we wanted to make it flow with the rest of the house and certainly not deter from the quality of home either.

Well, I love heart pine. I wasn't going to pay crazy per inch pricing from companies thousands of miles away to ship it to me with no guarantees etc. And, after all, in every town, city, or community, somewhere there are some older homes being torn down or falling down. I have this quirky thing about going through old falling down homes anyway...lots of treasures always found...

Well, long story short, our sub contractor found an older home that was being torn down, got some incredibly great price to "haul off" a bunch of the old wood - my heart pine- planed it down-after searching and removing all nails of course. And, the floor and the casing around the windows sports rich, warm heart pine.
