Cleaning Puppy Urine from Carpet

by Lavida
(California)

My little son is very fond of dogs and he was pestering me to buy one for him. Finally I agreed but shuddered at the thought of its caring. My friends who had pets had warned me about the damages the pet can cause to the carpet. But being a loving mother I couldn’t say no to my son.

We bought a puppy and the moment it entered our house it peed on the carpet. I was hysterical. I called up my friend and she asked me to put clean white towel on that spot. Then she asked me to prepare a solution of 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts clean water. Then I poured the solution on top of the spot and then soaked right back up with dry, white towels until all the moisture was absorbed into the towel.

Now I have become accustomed to all this. Another cheap and effective method is to use 20 Mule Borax. If you have an old urine smell in the carpet then pull the carpet back then put little water on that area then cover the padding and floor with the powder and then let it to dry. After some time vacuum the area.

It works for fresh urine also, only you have to blot at first and add little salt along with 20 Mule Borax powder. Only precaution you have to take is seeing for color fastness. Mine is an extremely dark burgundy carpet and nothing happened to the color. Now both of us are happy.
