I'm sure that when you think about installing hardwood floors in your house or commercial space, the first things that come into mind are the choices you'll have to make, between finished and unfinished floors, solid and engineered ones.

Still, there's a third choice that many tend to overlook: acrylic impregnated wood floor. Acrylic impregnated floors aren’t very popular, admittedly, but that's because they're rather new and didn't have time to establish a clear market yet.

Instead of just applying the color on the finishing touch of the floor, or using the first veneer engineered floor for this purpose, acrylic-impregnated ones are, well, impregnated with color.

What this means is that sealant and color are infused through the floor strips and planks, giving them a more thorough vibe, which is not only better looking, but also longer lasting.

Engineered hardwood floors are known to be very strong and resistant to moisture and humidity, but acrylic impregnated hardwood flooring surpasses even that measure. This type of floor is actually one of the strongest around, making it great in the battle against humidity.

But that’s not the only thing that acrylic hardwood floors are good for. They’ll also protect themselves from scratches, making them less obvious, because of the even levels of color it holds inside. Gouges are harder to hide out, but not impossible.

You can also turn your unfinished hardwood floor into acrylic impregnated. Basically, this way you will skip the last parts of the finishing process, namely the waxing, staining and buffing. By injecting acrylic monomers in the wood cell structure, not only will it produce the above-mentioned pigmenting effects, but it will also make the floor stronger.

This, in turn, makes it more comfortable and less prone to problems, so it’s definitely a word that you should consider going on if you still haven’t chosen a finish for your floor.

Admittedly, acrylic impregnated hardwood flooring is not really all that popular in households, as it is in commercial spaces. But then again, this sort of proportion also happens when you compare prefinished versus unfinished floors.

Since acrylic impregnation works great with unfinished floors, it’s only natural that they share the same installation targets. And with unfinished floors working great with commercial spaces, it is rather clear how this relationship formed.

So is it worth getting acrylic impregnated hardwood flooring? Well, it really depends on what you want to do with it. If you’re dealing with a large space with a lot of  traffic going on, acrylic impregnated floors are great, since they will hold out outstandingly well under the stress.

On the other hand, if you spend most of your time at home, there’s really no real reason why you should go with acrylic. For the trouble and costs that it will probably take you to get it installed, we think you would be better off with some plain old prefinished floor.
